Vee is a fifteen-year-old girl living on the streets of Aloessia, an eastern city on the continent of Sommerland.

Cursed by facial markings that identify her as a member of a sub race, her life revolves around avoiding the merciless city guards and other undesirables co-existing in the slums. A pair of orphaned twins arrive in Aloessia amidst Vee’s flight from the law. But befriending the fugitive does not come without personal consequences. Soon they realize Vee has some deeper connection to the Empire that hunts them across volatile lands. Driven beyond the city walls, the trio must contend not only with the Empire’s forces, but with an ancient darkness that threatens every living person on the continent.
